Hello Stefan Thompson!
I have to write a formal analysis paper for one of my college classes and would love to base it on your art, this piece specifically! I find it very intriguing and it drew me in right away. I know that you use pigments and tempura, Did you use any for this piece? and if so what are their base? sienna/burnt? Also, what are your mediums? It looks like you've used a gloss wash for the surface? What is this piece on? Canvas, paper, wood? The way you have seemed to use sfumato is exquisite! I looked on your website but couldn't find the descriptions I was looking for. Is there anymore information you could provide about the pigments you use and the mediums for this piece? If I don't hear from you, I'll base my paper on another one of your pieces. I absolutely love your work!!

Hey
this piece is wax soot and oil on card paper,
actually an old file folder, one of my favorite paper weights,
i prime the surface with beeswax,
rub on , then i drip was on , then i apply flame via beeswax candle which creates soot, then i carve away some stuff and also add oil paint,
the oil paint is as simple as it gets
black pigment (bone or mars) linseed oil, orange terpenes as solvent
nontoxic !! easy to make !!
thanks good luck with your paper

Last night i had a dream about a snake with a pattern i rarely see,
then today i saw it on the road,
pretty crazy stuff sometimes,
reminds you there is more going on than you hear on the news,

Thats a nice piece - and tickles my increased love for shades and textures.

Forgive my ignorance but is '3 x 4' the size? If so 3 x 4 what? Inches, feet, metres?

Also, what is the image painted on, it looks like old cardboard, old singed cardboard?

You have a pretty wicked way of painting. It somewhat reminds me of the style in the James and the Giant Peach storybook, but yours is much more earthy and trippy.

I really like it. Something primal and natural in it makes it so much more true to the subject matter.
