Artist's Comments

This is crushed burnt bone egg yolk and water,
on recycled card paper.......
its an amazing paint, performs at least as well if not better than acrylic of the same colour.....

you should try doing this,
just put the egg yolk and pigment in a mortar and pestle and grind it up well,
very easy. artist quality paint

Wow, that looks great! I've always wanted to try this (I even have a panel prepared) but I get too nervous for some reason. ^_^;

well just try it on paper , or cardboard, or board, it works on most things exept canvas i guess cause there is the chance when dented it could break off, but ill probably use it on cavas thinly anyway.. im sure if its not to thick it will be fine.

i love tempera... i use pigment dispersions myself (instead of grinding). its such a fun paint, and layering is a joy! i hope you do some more, looks like you have a great handle on it.

(sorry to butt in) don't be nervous! and don't try on paper! if you've been waiting to try tempera and have a panel ready, the panel is the best support for this type of paint and you can go crazy and experiment all you want without running into any limitations with the materials. especially if you are using traditional gesso. good luck!

does it smell? does it stick?
